About This Passage
This passage shows how tired Stanley is after digging, and how short his rest has to be. Four minutes of cold water is the only comfort his day gives him, and even soap is too much work. Copying it helps young readers feel what a long hard day feels like in a body.
Stanley stood in the shower and let the cold water pour over his hot and sore body. It was four minutes of heaven. For the second day in a row he didn't use soap. He was too tired.
