About This Passage
This short passage shows what nicknames really mean at Camp Green Lake. Stanley is glad to be called Caveman not because the name is nice, but because being called a name by the group means he belongs. Copying it helps a young reader feel how much belonging matters to someone who is new.
He was glad they called him Caveman. It meant they accepted him as a member of the group. He would have been glad even if they'd called him Barf Bag.
