About This Passage
These three short sentences zoom in like a camera. First we see the WHOLE valley with nests. Then we see WHAT the nests are made of. Then we see WHO is inside the nests. Each new sentence takes us closer and closer until we are looking right at the tiny dinosaurs. Young writers will practice this stair-step way of describing one thing in three steps, going from big to small.
The valley below was filled with nests. Big nests made out of mud. The nests were filled with tiny dinosaurs.
