In this passage Dickon explains why he never catches cold — because he has grown up out on the moor in all weathers, tough as a white-thorn knobstick. Mary begs him to come back, and Dickon answers stoutly that he will come every day, rain or shine. Copy it carefully and notice how Burnett lets Dickon's own Yorkshire voice do all the work of characterization.
