Right before the rumble in Chapter 9, the brothers and their friends play in the yard. Even though they are nervous about the big fight, Darry leaps off the porch and lands a somersault. Soda flips after him. Two-Bit and Pony cartwheel down the steps. The boys are scared inside, but tumbling and laughing together is how they hold onto each other.
