About This Passage
This is the chapter’s most powerful small picture: the door opens and Geppetto comes back with a CARD for school but no COAT, in his shirt sleeves, in the snow. A POOR father has just sold his only warm thing for his son’s book. This is what love looks like.
After a little while he returned with an A B C card in his hand, but his coat was gone. The poor man was in his shirt sleeves and it was snowing outside too.
