About This Passage

This is the happiest sentence Pinocchio has had in many chapters. He is jumping over chairs and audience members because the wooden marionettes have called him ‘brother.’ Read the sentence and feel how the jumps come faster and faster — each jump is a child running toward a family he did not know he had. Collodi gives Pinocchio this whole moment of joy on purpose, because the next big man through the door is going to want to burn him for firewood. The chapter is teaching us that joy and danger can sit very close together.
