About This Passage
This is Fern's answer to her mother, who is worried Fern is lonely. The sentences are short and heartfelt and hold four of our vocabulary words (friends, barn, cellar, lonely), giving young writers a chance to meet the chapter's theme — that friendship can happen anywhere — through copying the line that says it best.
My best friends are in the barn cellar. It is a very sociable place. Not at all lonely.
