Bunnicula — Chapter 7

About This Passage

This is a simple passage, but it is one of the most important moments in the whole book. Harold realizes that Bunnicula — the little rabbit he was told was a dangerous vampire — is actually sick, and Harold feels helpless. He wants to tell Chester, but he knows Chester is too angry to listen. Notice two things: the word 'friend' (Harold is now calling Bunnicula a friend, not an enemy) and the honest admission 'I didn't know what to do.' Copying this passage teaches a writer how short sentences with simple words can carry a big moment of emotional honesty.
