About This Passage
These three short sentences come from Chester at the end of the chapter. He has just looked at the white tomato that everyone has been examining, and he claims to have found 'very, very suspicious marks' on the skin. Then he announces, in dramatic fashion, that the marks are teeth marks and that he is going to re-read a vampire book that night. The author uses very short sentences to make Chester sound like a serious detective. Copying these sentences teaches a writer how to use short, dramatic sentences to make a character sound mysterious and important.
I believe they're teeth marks. So tonight I'm going to re-read a book I read last year. The Mark of the Vampire.

Tell someone what happened in this chapter in order. When you get to the most important part, slow down and tell it carefully — what happened, why it mattered, and what you think about it.
Discussion Questions
- Harold says he is bored because Chester is staying up all night to watch the rabbit and then sleeping all day. Without Chester to talk to, Harold has nothing to do. Does this tell us that Harold and Chester are real friends, or are they just two animals who happen to live in the same house? What in the story makes you think so?
- Chester says the rabbit is 'a danger to this household and everyone in it.' But the rabbit has not actually hurt anyone. Is it fair to call something dangerous before it has done anything bad? What in the story makes you think so?
