About This Passage
This is one of those moments where the sentence sounds simple but is doing a lot of work. Notice the words 'in my life' at the end. They tell us that Opal is comparing this music to ALL the music she has ever heard. The music must be very special, because she is putting it at the top of her whole list. Copying this sentence shows children how the words at the end of a sentence often carry the biggest feeling.
It was the prettiest music I have ever heard in my life.
